Do you need to apply for Social Security Disability? At Lovins Law PLLC, our Social Security attorneys are able to pursue the SSDI benefits you are owed under the law. We serve clients from our offices in Dallas and Austin.
Available Methods to File for SSDI
The three available ways to file for your SSDI benefits are:
- Calling Social Security 800.772.1213 to request an appointment to apply
- By going to the SSA website – www.ssa.gov/applyfordisability/
- Visiting your local Social Security office in person without scheduling an appointment
Applying Online
Any adult is permitted to apply for SSDI benefits online. However, there are restrictions for who may apply online for SSDI. Those who may apply for online for SSDI only include adults who have never previously applied for SSDI, who are disabled but not blind, who have never been married, and are also filing for SSDI benefits
The Best Process for Many People
To begin the process of applying for disability benefits, it is often best to call ahead to schedule an appointment. Regardless of whether you call or visit the SSA office, you will probably obtain an appointment for an interview for another date and time. Therefore, calling to schedule an appointment will probably be less of a chore and take less time. If you walk in to an SSA office, you may have to wait for a number of hours before you are seen by someone. At the time of your appointment, you will either go through an interview over the phone or in person at the local office.
Although an online application can be quite convenient, if you need help completing your application, the online process will leave you without the opportunity to ask questions or communicate face-to-face with a live person. Applying in person is encouraged for those who need basic help completing their paperwork. However, if you feel that you are comfortable applying online and are able to inform yourself about the disability applications process, applying online may be the best option for you, if you qualify to do so.
