One driver was killed and at least eight others injured in the past 24 hours as icy conditions hit the Austin-Travis County area Monday evening.
One unidentified man died in a three-vehicle crash near the intersection of Texas Highway 71 and Bee Cave. Eight other drivers/passengers were also injured in the same crash. Details on the crash are not yet available, but emergency responders believed that ice was a factor.
Several overpasses and bridges in the Austin area were reported as being iced over, as precipitation began at about 3:45 p.m. By just 6 p.m., Travis County first responders had been called to about 30 crashes in the area.
