A driver was hospitalized Monday after his big rig truck smashed through two concrete barriers in North Richland Hills near Fort Worth.
According to North Richland Hills police, the driver of an 18-wheeler truck was likely speeding down a ramp and did not engage their brakes, when the large truck careened off of an overpass onto Loop 820 below. The tractor crashed onto the road below, while the trailer dangled off of the bridge above.
The incident has brought increased public scrutiny to the area, as several deadly crashes have occurred there in the last several years. Just a year ago three people were killed in a car crash there. Often times a lack of signage is blamed, and drivers are not aware beforehand that they need to slow down as they approach the bridge.
The North Tarrant Express Project told news outlets that it has made several changes to the area since the wreck, including the installation of rumble strips, signal-ahead signs, red light signs, and directional arrow signs at the end of the ramp.
The name of the driver was not released.
