25-year-old Qianyu Hang was seriously injured after crashing into an 18-wheeler early Wednesday morning near Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina.
According to police, Hang was driving eastbound in the westbound lanes of Interstate 40 at about 1 a.m. Hang was driving a Toyota Rav4, a smaller SUV, when he crashed into a 2018 Volvo FedEx 18-wheeler.
The driver of the truck, a 68-year-0ld man from Pinetops, said he saw Hang driving the wrong direction and was able to steer to his right at the last second. Hang then slammed into the left side of the 18-wheeler. He was later transported to a hospital with serious injuries.
The truck driver was not injured in the crash. The incident is still under investigation, though police stated that other 911 calls were placed regarding Hang being on the wrong side of the highway.
