A student and teacher were hospitalized Wednesday after the school bus they were on drove off of US Highway 69 in Lumberton, Texas, just north of Beaumont.
The wreck unfolded when, for unknown reasons, the bus drove off the highway near West Walton Road into oncoming traffic. The bus struck an 18-wheeler and a pickup truck, and then crashed off the road. About two dozen other fourth-graders were transported to nearby hospitals as well following the crash.
One of the students was flown to Hermann Memorial Hospital in Houston with a head injury.
There were a total of 44 students and 4 adults on the bus, which was returning to school from a field trip.
