A motorist died early Wednesday morning in a collision with an 18-wheeler on Interstate 20 near Kilgore, Texas. Amando Vega, 77, pulled in front of an 18-wheeler driven by Melvin Edwards, and the 18-wheeler struck Vega’s Mazda Protege. Vega’s car then reportedly hit the guardrail and shot back towards the truck, eventually becoming trapped between the tractor and trailer portions.
Both the car and the trailer caught fire before coming to a stop on the side of the road. Vega was unfortunately pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver was transported to Good Shepherd Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, and was soon released.
No statement has been released from police regarding any exact cause of the wreck as to either party.
