New Braunfels Trucking Wrecks Cause Multiple Injuries

Early Wednesday morning two 18-wheeler wrecks shut down much of Interstate 35 in New Braunfels, Texas.

The first accident occurred around 3:15 a.m. when a driver going the way slammed into an 18-wheeler near I-35 and Solms Road. The wrong-way vehicle was pushed up against a concrete barrier, and the 26-year-old driver had to be extracted from her vehicle by emergency responders. She was taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center after suffering critical injuries. The parties involved have not been identified and no contributing factors to the accident, such as alcohol, have been identified.

Later in the day, near Kohlenberg, Texas, a driver traveling at 20 miles per hour on I-35 was struck from behind by an 18 wheeler traveling about 70 miles per hour. According to police the driver of the truck did not see the slower-moving SUV “until right before impact.”

Thankfully in this instance both the driver and the passenger of the SUV are expected to be okay. No injuries were reported as to the driver of the 18-wheeler.
