Two individuals were killed Wednesday morning in Rockbridge County, Virginia after an accident involving an 18-wheeler.
Virginia State Police stated that Mark Lucas, 42, and Gerald Hilliard, 68, the respective driver and passenger in an 18-wheeler truck, were driving south on Interstate 81 near Exit 180 when the truck left the road, ran through several trees, and flipped.
Police investigators stated that neither Lucas or Hilliard was wearing a seatbelt. Their truck was carrying manure.
No other vehicles were involved in the accident. The Virginia State Police Crash Reconstruction Team and Motor Carrier Unit are assisting with investigative efforts to establish exactly why Lucas and Hilliard’s truck lost control and left the roadway.
