A member of the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets was killed Tuesday in a car crash on West Highway 21 near Bryan, Texas.
According to police reports and witnesses, Alexander Jones, 20, an Aggie Band Command Sergeant Major, crossed the center dividing line of Highway 21 near the 6200 block, and slammed head-on into an 18-wheeler truck.
Both vehicles were set aflame as a result of the impact. Jones was pronounced dead at the scene.
Traffic was stopped for several hours in both directions and the Brazos County Fire Department responded to the scene.
The driver of the 18-wheeler truck was not seriously injured.
Jones was a junior Political Science major in the A&M College of Liberal Arts, who was a member of the 2018 graduating class. He was seeking a commission in the United States Air Force following college.
Police have not yet determined why Jones crossed over the center of the road, and the investigation remains ongoing.
