A truck driver and his passenger were both killed this morning when their 18-wheeler truck ran into the back of another 18-wheeler. The crash occurred near Chattanooga, Tennessee on northbound Interstate 75.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, an 18-wheeler driven by Kenny Barkley blew a tire while driving on the interstate. Barkley tried to maneuver off to the shoulder of the road, but before he could fully move over another 18-wheeler, driven by Harry Johnson, ran into the back of his truck. Both trucks continued for a few hundred yards along the road before stopping on the shoulder.
As seen in the picture below, Barkley’s truck was hauling lumber. Upon collision, the lumber seemed to penetrate the front of the cab of Johnson’s truck.
Johnson and his passenger, James Crosby, were both pronounced dead at the scene. Crosby was in the sleeper portion of the truck’s cab.
Barkley was not injured in the crash.
