Two Killed in Virginia 18-Wheeler Crash

Two unidentified individuals were killed early Wednesday morning after being involved in a fiery highway crash with an 18-wheeler truck.

According to state police, the wreck occurred at about 1:15 a.m. on Interstate 95 where it runs under Interstate 295 in Henrico, Virginia. The 18-wheeler truck was apparently driving northbound when it drove off the left side of the road, hit a concrete support beam for the I-295 overpass, and then burst into flames.

The driver of the truck and a passenger in the truck’s cab both died at the scene. Police investigators think that the driver might have fallen asleep while driving. Neither body has been identified at this point.

Extensive cleanup efforts were underway later in the morning, as bricks that were carried by the 18-wheeler were scattered all over the roadway. Several lanes of the highway were closed down for multiple hours.
