A truck driver was killed Thursday after crashing his 18-wheeler truck into a restaurant in Fort Bend County, near Houston.
According to the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office, the unidentified driver smashed into an unoccupied Japanese restaurant at about 9 a.m. The 18-wheeler, hauling liquid nitrogen, was moving southbound on Grand Parkway when it crossed the middle of the road, through the feeder road, and into the restaurant, striking two other vehicles in its path.
Three people suffered minor injuries in the ordeal. In addition to the damage done to the Japanese restaurant, a nail salon next door was also damaged.
According to reports, the driver experienced a medical emergency at some point, though the sequence the events is still unclear as to whether the ailment occurred before or after the crash. Emergency officials found the driver slumped over the driver’s wheel after the wreck. He was then transported to a nearby hospital, where officials pronounced him dead.
