Truck Driver Killed, Two Injured, in Highway Collision Between 18-Wheeler and Dump Truck

Last Wednesday a truck driver was killed when his 18-wheeler truck was struck by a dump truck that had experienced a blown tire. The wreck occurred in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, in South Middleton Township, at about 2:30 p.m., on Interstate 81.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, a southbound dump truck had its front left tire blow out, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle. The dump truck then drove across a grass median and ran head-on into an oncoming northbound 18-wheeler. The driver of this 18-wheeler, who has not been identified, was killed.

The dump truck also struck a pickup truck in the northbound lane. The driver of the pickup truck and the driver of the dump truck were both flown to the hospital, though their condition was not reported.

Police expected the highway to be shut down for at least 6 hours following the accident, to allow for investigation and clearing of the wreck.
