That is certainly a headline we can support. As San Antonio’s Express News editorial staff points out, Texas continues to lead the nation in oil and gas worker deaths with 71 fatalities last year and 283 from 2010 to 2014. The editorial staff notes that while drilling is an inherently dangerous job, simple steps can be taken to reduce the risks, such as stiffer penalties for unsafe work conditions and better access to trauma care following an incident. No doubt more needs to be done to protect oilfield workers. Hopefully more editorial boards will continue to shine a light on the unnecessarily dangerous conditions these workers face. In the meantime, we will continue to do our part to hold businesses responsible for unsafe work conditions.
