Sheriff Deputy Killed in Tractor-Trailer Crash

A Carroll County Sheriff Deputy was killed Thursday night in a crash with an 18-wheeler.

The crash took place around 10 p.m. in Carroll County, Virginia. The Sheriff’s Deputy, Curtis Bartlett, 32, had responded to an ongoing pursuit involving another Carroll County and State Police.

While Bartlett was driving west on Route 58, using his emergency patrol lights and sirens, he collided with a tractor trailer that was making a left turn at about 25 miles per hour. Bartlett crashed into the rear of the truck, and died at the scene.

The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured in the wreck. Both the driver and passenger involved in the original pursuit were later taken into custody.
