Several Injured when 18-Wheeler Slams through Apartment Building

Several people were injured Sunday morning when an 18-wheeler truck plowed through the side of an apartment complex in Fullerton, California.

According to reports, the crash took place at 6 a.m. The initial investigation by police stated that the 18-wheeler was heading east at or below the speed limit when it abruptly left its lane, hit the curb, and ran through the apartment complex. Many in the complex at the time of the incident thought that an earthquake had struck. Police have not stated exactly what caused the large truck to lose control.

Several tenants sustained minor injuries, but not were seriously injured or killed. One of them, Josefina Estrada, had injuries from pieces of drywall falling on her. The exact number of injured has not been reported.

The driver of the truck and his passenger, respectively 44 and 42-years-old, were seriously injured in the wreck and transported to UCI Medical Center by ambulance. One tenant ran to assist the truck driver, and found that he had fainted and was lying on the ground outside of the truck.

Five units in the complex were evacuated and are now considered uninhabitable due to the damage they sustained, according to Fullerton Police officials. It has not been stated whether charges will be pressed against the driver of the truck.
