18-Wheeler Bursts into Flames in Slidell, Louisiana

Interstate 12 in Slidell, Louisiana experienced significant delays Thursday afternoon after an 18-wheeler set on fire in the middle of traffic.

According to police, at about 5 p.m. an 18-wheeler drove off the road into a nearby tree line, catching flames after striking several trees. Investigators have not yet determined what caused the truck to fly off the road.

The unidentified driver of the truck suffered moderate injuries in the wreck, and was transported to a nearby hospital by helicopter.

No other vehicles other than the 18-wheeler were involved in the wreck. Most of the road was shut down for several hours as investigation and cleanup of the wreck was underway.
