Truck driver Dwayne Simon, 37, was arrested Tuesday morning after stopping his 18-wheeler in the middle of US Highway 75 in Dallas, leading to another driver’s death.
The Dallas Observer stated that Mr. Simon parked his truck in the middle of the northbound lanes of the highway and failed to turn on his flashers at about 2:30 a.m. Another driver in a Chevy Silverado pickup then crashed into the back of Simon’s semitrailer and was killed. That driver has not yet been identified.
Police arrived after the crash to find Simon walking incoherently around his truck, stating that he experienced mechanical problems and was unable to drive the truck. Upon further investigation, police found that the truck was functional. Simon was administered a field sobriety test, which found that he was under the influence of drugs at the time of the wreck. He was then charged with intoxication manslaughters and booked into the Dallas County Jail.
Highway 75 was closed for about four hours as the scene was investigated, causing major traffic delays.
