Three Storm Chasers Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash in North Texas

As heavy storms came down on north Texas this past evening, three storm chasers were killed in a car crash in Dickens County in north Texas.

The wreck took place about 70 miles east of Lubbock, Texas, near the town of Spur. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash took place on FM 2794 at FM 1081 when a black Suburban SUV ran a stop sign and struck a westbound black Jeep.

The storm chasers were identified as Kelley Gene Williamson, 57, Randall Delane Yarnall, 55, and Corbin Lee Jaeger, 25. Williamson and Yarnall were driving in the Suburban, while Jaeger was driving the Jeep.

Williamson and Yarnall were both contractors with The Weather Channel, where they worked on the show Storm Wranglers.

All three were chasing a tornado that was spotted in the county. Authorities stated that Williamson, who was driving the Suburban, was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. Yarnall and Jaeger did have their seatbelts on.
