Michelle Nicole Vargas, 23, was killed Monday in San Antonio when her SUV crashed into the back of an 18-wheeler truck on an I-35 feeder road.
The crash took place at about 1:30 p.m. near the Rittiman Road exit. According to the San Antonio Police Department, the 18-wheeler truck had slowed down for traffic, but Vargas, in a Mazda SUV, was unable to brake in time and crashed into the rear of the large trailer. Photos (below) show the front of the SUV crumpled underneath the 18-wheeler’s trailer.
Vargas was treated for head injuries at the scene of the accident, but was later pronounced dead. Medical officials are not sure at this time whether she succumbed to her injuries from the wreck or if she passed away by some other means.
Police have not yet issued an official report on the matter, and have not stated whether either of the drivers involved is at fault for the accident. It was not reported whether the truck driver was injured.
