A truck driver in the Sacramento area crashed his big rig truck early Monday morning after drifting off of the road and driving into several trees.
The accident took place on the ramp connecting northbound Interstate 5 to Interstate 80 at about 4:30 a.m. Police investigators believe that the driver may have fallen asleep while driving his truck. The truck driver suffered only minor injuries, and was transported via EMS to a nearby hospital. No other vehicles or people were involved in the wreck.
The entire connecting ramp for the highways was closed for about 12 hours on Monday, and finally reopened at about 5 p.m. Cleanup crews worked for hours to remove the truck from the trees, and also had to clean up the spilled load of lettuce that the truck had been carrying.
