An unidentified 18-wheeler driver died in a crash on Interstate 26 in Saluda, North Carolina. The incident occurred Monday morning.
Authorities with the North Carolina Highway Patrol reported that the 18-wheeler was driving west on I-26 when it ran off the road in between two bridges before crashing onto Macedonia Road, taking out part of the guardrail on the roadway.
Officials are still looking into what exactly caused the devastating crash. At this time they are not sure what time it occurred, as the roadway is not especially busy. A resident nearby reported hearing a loud commotion around 1:30 to 2 a.m. Emergency officials were first alerted to the wreck at about 5:45 a.m. when someone called it in.
No other vehicles appear to have been involved in the crash.
