According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, nearly 800,000 Dorel Juvenile Group child safety seats are being recalled because the harness lock and release button does not always return to the locked position. This allows the harness strap to loosen up as the child moves, creating a higher risk of injury to the child in the event of a car wreck. The recall affects infant, convertible, and booster child restraint systems manufactured from May 1, 2008 through April 30, 2009, that have a “Center Front Adjuster” for the harness. Dorel Juvenile group will provide consumers a lubricant and instructions on how to apply it in an effort to remedy the problem. Dorel Juvenile Group further contends that consumers can continue to use the safety seats as long as parents make sure the harness is properly adjusted, the lock/release button is fully in the locked position, and after properly adjusted, the shoulder part of the harness is tested to make sure it is secure an will not loosen.
