An 18-wheeler wreck in Jackson County, Mississippi lead to the fatalities of a driver and his dog, and several other injuries.
The wreck involved seven vehicles in total. According to witnesses, an 18-wheeler truck was approaching stopped traffic but was unable to brake in time, causing it to collide into a mass of other vehicles, including another 18-wheeler. The collision created a domino effect of collisions.
In the chaos, a pickup truck was hit by an 18-wheeler, causing a passenger to be ejected. The truck was then pushed over the side of the overpass, and a person and dog inside were killed when the car impacted the ground.
Several other drivers were transported to a nearby hospital for their injuries. The number, and severity of those injuries, was not reported.
Moss Point Police officials described the scene as chaotic, saying that “the vehicles were so smashed together that I didn’t even realize the 18-wheeler was actually two 18-wheelers.”
Clean-up crews spent hours working to clear the road. Diesel fuel leaked from both of the 18-wheelers involved in the wreck, and had to be cleaned up. A police investigation is ongoing as to determine the exact cause of the wreck.
