Janice Huffman, 64, was killed Monday afternoon when her Lexus SUV was involved in a crash with two 18-wheeler trucks and 2 other passenger vehicles. Four others were injured in the wreck.
The accident took place on eastbound Interstate 30 in Hunt County, Texas. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, an 18-wheeler driver failed to slow down for traffic and struck Huffman’s SUV, as well as a Nissan Frontier pickup truck and a second 18-wheeler. The second 18-wheeler then struck a Chevy Equinox SUV. Debris was reportedly scattered all over the highway and the south feeder road.
One unidentified individual was sent to Plano Medical Center by helicopter after suffering a broken pelvis. Three others were sent to Hunt Regional Medical Center by EMS with non-life-threatening injuries.
The eastbound portion of the interstate was closed for about four hours as Texas DPS investigated and cleared the area. No official report has been released at this time. No charges against the truck driver have been filed yet.
