Twenty-seven year old Catherine Shaw of Dallas was killed Tuesday night in a hit and run car accident in Houston. As evidenced by the picture above, the impact between the two cars involved in the accident was severe. Yet, according to officers, the Buick that crashed into Ms. Shaw’s car fled the scene of the accident before officers arrived. The driver of the Buick, 17 year old Daniel Palacios, has since turned himself in to Houston police officers and charges are pending. At the time of this car accident, Ms. Shaw was a second year law student at Texas Southern University, and she was a graduate of Texas A&M.
There is never an excuse to leave the scene of a car accident. Doing so can meant the difference between life and death for those involved. As in this case, who knows if the tragic outcome could have been different if the person that caused the accident remained at the scene and rendered aid. Yet, daily there are similar reports of hit and runs throughout our cities in Texas.
