A crash involving three vehicles, including an 18-wheeler big rig, shut down all of the westbound lanes on Interstate 10 for most of Wednesday afternoon. Details on the crash are still unclear, but it involved an 18-wheeler truck that partly overturned after the trailer was disconnected from its cab.
Debris from the wreck was strewn all over the highway. It appears that the large truck was carrying wraps of sheet metal, which also spilled from the trailer. Fuel was also spilled as a result of the crash. All of these factors led to a lengthy cleanup effort that lasted several hours.
The wreck took place right where Interstate 10 intersects into the 610 east Loop. As an estimated 200,000 vehicles travel through this section of roadway every day, traffic was backed up for over 5 miles at one point.
Three total vehicles were involved in the wreck. No injuries have yet been reported.
