Drones, Driverless Vehicles to be Discussed at Northeast Tarrant Transportation Summit

The Northeast Tarrant Transportation Summit is meeting this Friday in Hurst, Texas to discuss the future of transportation in the Fort Worth area. Many leading officials on traffic safety throughout the country are expected to be in attendance.

The purpose of the summit is to educate those in Tarrant County on upcoming safety measures, and how the County is spending its population’s tax dollars.

One big issue to be discussed will be the future of driverless cars, and how public attitude will affect the implementation of these systems. “Is that going to be a car driving next to you? Do you want a car driving next to you that’s being driven by a computer? You may not,” said Gary Fickes, the Tarrant County Precinct 3 Commissioner.

Also to be discussed is the use of drones in the future. Drone use as a vehicle for delivery has often been discussed in public circles, and officials are set to discuss side effects such as increased air congestion and decreased street congestion.

The theme for the conference is “Creating Tomorrowland, Today.” About 700 traffic officials are expected to be in attendance.
