Driver Trapped Underneath 18-Wheeler After Crash

The driver of a pickup truck was trapped in his vehicle Monday afternoon after he ran into a parked 18-wheeler trailer.

Police are still investigating the exact causes of the accident. According to a release from police officials, the pickup driver was traveling northbound on Willow Springs Road when he left his lane, and then the roadway itself. He then struck a guide wire for a utility pole, a sign for an apartment complex, and then a gas meter, all while traveling through a field. He finally came to a stop after colliding with the stationary big rig trailer, and was pinned inside the cab.

Officer later arrived on the scene and called in two wreckers to help lift the trailer up, so that the pickup could be pulled out from underneath. The driver was then extracted. According to reports the driver was conscious and alert throughout the ordeal. He was in stable condition and was later transported to Scott & White Medical Center in Temple for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police are still investigating why exactly the truck initially left the road.
