Last Friday afternoon Cody Donahue, a Colorado State Trooper, was killed when he was struck by a semi-truck on Interstate 25 in Castle Rock, Colorado.
According to court documents, Donahue was investigating another wreck on I-25 when he was struck by the commercial truck driven by Noe Gamez-Ruiz. Gamez-Ruiz allegedly drove over the solid white line and into Donahue, killing him instantly.
Gamez-Ruiz was arrested and faces charges of careless driving resulting in death and failure to yield the right of way to an emergency vehicle. According to the arrest affidavit, he immediately pulled over after the collision. Records do not mention any suspicion that the truck driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs a the time, and he also submitted to a voluntary blood test.
