In anticipation of a busy holiday weekend, the City of Austin implemented a no refusal weekend for drivers suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol. During no refusal weekends, warrants to draw blood are issued for all drivers suspected of drunk driving. In all, officers arrested 59 people for drunk driving, with 12 people being arrested on Halloween night. With the biggest risk to kids on Halloween being cars rather than tainted candy, keeping drunk drivers off the road goes a long way to reducing the potential of car accidents involving pedestrians on Halloween weekend. Fewer drunk drivers on the roads means fewer car accidents and safer streets for pedestrians enjoying the holiday weekend.
