Train Hits Passenger Bus in Mississippi; 3 Dead, Multiple Injured

Three people were killed this afternoon when a passenger bus was struck by a freight train in Biloxi, Mississippi, with an unknown amount of people injured.

According to Biloxi Police, there were 50 passengers on the bus from Austin, Texas. The bus was reportedly stopped on the train tracks, though authorities have not confirmed why.

The collision occurred as the train crashed into the side of the bus, pushing it 300 feet down the tracks. It took about 30 minutes for emergency responders to pull all of the injured people from the wreck. Many were pulled out through windows as the damage to the bus was quite catastrophic.

A triage unit was set up at a nearby hospital to help handle the wounded, and helicopters transported those badly injured to trauma centers.

None of the deceased individuals have been identified, as the investigation remains ongoing.
