Tanker Truck Accident Injures 1, Shuts Down Roadway

An 18-wheeler tanker truck was involved in an accident Tuesday afternoon in Suffolk, Virginia, injuring the driver. According to reports, a pick-up truck was sitting at a red light near the 3300 block of Pruden Boulevard, when the 18-wheeler approached from behind. The large truck had to swerve to avoid hitting the truck, but still hit the back corner, causing it to run off the road before stopping upright in a ditch.

The truck was carrying about 8,000 gallons of fuel, and thankfully the tank was not punctured and no fuel was spilled.

The truck driver was treated on-scene for non-life-threatening injuries and was later taken to Sentara Obici Hospital.

One westbound lane of Route 460 was closed because of the wreck, and the accident is still being investigated at this time.
