An unidentified 73-year-old woman was killed early Tuesday after crashing her vehicle head-on into a tractor-trailer truck.
The wreck took place at about 2:30 a.m. on the southbound Florida Turnpike in Orange County, Florida, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. At the time of the report officers were unsure why the woman was driving against traffic.
The woman died at the scene of the crash. The driver of the truck, Steven Arce, 53, told police that he was unable to avoid the oncoming vehicle. Arce was seriously injured in the wreck and was taken to Hunter’s Creek Emergency Room for treatment.
The southbound lanes of the Turnpike remained closed for multiple hours while the investigation was performed.
