Two people died Monday morning after their car was struck by an 18-wheeler truck near Rockingham, North Carolina.
According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, the crash took place on Highway 1 South near the North Carolina-South Carolina border at about 3:26 a.m. on Monday. Reports state that a Honda Accord was driving northbound on the highway when it crossed over the center line and ran into the 18-wheeler truck head-on.
Medical reports stated that the driver and passenger in the Accord were killed on impact. The Accord itself was split in half.
The 18-wheeler driver reportedly sustained only minor injuries. The road was shut down for clean-up and investigation for almost 12 hours.
Highway Patrol officials stated that neither the driver nor the passenger of the Accord were wearing their seatbelts. These individuals have not yet been identified.
