The driver of a tractor-trailer truck was charged with operating under the influence of liquor, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and a marked lanes violation early Thursday morning, after rolling the truck onto its side on Interstate 93 in Milton, Massachusetts.
The driver, Eri Pleitez, 43, crashed his truck at about 1:30 a.m. while traveling southbound on I-93. Pleitez reportedly rolled the truck over a guard rail onto an exit ramp, damaging the rails and bringing down power lines in the process.
Pleitez told police that he drank six beers at a birthday party approximately three hours prior to the crash. He failed a field sobriety tests, with a blood alcohol content of 0.11 percent. Pleitez also told police that he was cut off by a black truck on the highway, which led to the crash.
The exit ramp was closed for over 12 hours, reopening just before 4 p.m. The truck was carrying about 38,000 pounds of cheese and other dairy products, which had to be unloaded by hand so that the truck could be flipped back upright.
About 180 households were affected by the power outage due to the downed power lines. No injuries, including injuries to the truck driver, were reported.
