One person was killed and two others injured this Monday when they were involved in a head-on collision with a drunk driver going the wrong way on a highway.
The crash occurred on Route 46 in Clifton, New Jersey, near the Garden State Parkway. According to the Clifton Police Department, Louis Yanez, 32, was driving a 2009 black Infinity eastbound while in the westbound lane of the highway. Yanez collided head-on with a Honda CRV.
The unidentified male driver of the CRV was declared dead at the scene. Two other occupants of the CRV were admitted to nearby St. Joseph’s Hospital. Their exact condition was not stated by police. It was also not stated whether Yanez was injured as a result of the accident.
Yanez is believed to have been drunk at the time of the collision. He was charged by the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office with one count of second-degree death-by-auto, two counts of third-degree assault-by-auto, and also received summons for driving while intoxicated and reckless driving.
