Two Injured in Double 18-Wheeler Collision

A crash took place in Washington County, Virginia early this morning that ended with two drivers being injured and sent to the hospital.

The wreck occurred at 2:42 a.m. on Interstate 81 at mile marker 19. Virginia State Police reported that a flatbed tractor-trailer was rear-ended by another tractor-trailer, causing part of the flatbed’s load of siding to fall into the road.

Both drivers were reportedly injured, but were driven via ambulance to Johnston Memorial Hospital in nearby Abington to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The drivers are expected to be okay.

One of the diesel fuel tanks for the trucks was ruptured as a result of the crash. Local hazmat response teams were called in for cleanup of the spilled fuel.

The driver of the first flatbed tractor-trailer was an unidentified 28-year-old male out of Texas. The second driver, Roger D. Arthur, 54, was charged by police for failure to maintain control of his vehicle.

Further details as to the cause of the wreck are still under investigation.
