20-year-old Shyheim Samuel was killed Tuesday evening in a car crash in the town of Seymour, Connecticut.
Reports from police stated that a 4-door car struck a utility pole at the address of 11 Rimmon Street. No other vehicles were apparently involved. Officials with the Seymour Police Department said that speed was likely a factor in the wreck.
When EMS arrived on the scene, the car was reportedly lying upside down next to a utility pole that was broken into three pieces. Live power lines also dangled around the area. Five others were involved in the single-vehicle wreck, all with serious, and some life-threatening, injuries. They were all transported by emergency responders to nearby hospitals for treatment.
So far criminal charges are expected to be filed against the driver of the 4-door sedan, though the driver has not been identified. Samuel was believed to have been sitting in the right rear passenger position.
Power outages due to the downed utility pole were ongoing through 8 a.m. Wednesday morning.
