A pileup accident took place Monday on Highway 103 near Lufkin, Texas, when a large truck hauling chickens slammed into stopped traffic in a work zone.
In total, eight vehicles were involved in the wreck, and seven people were injured and transported to hospitals. One of those was sent via helicopter transport.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, several vehicles had stopped at a work zone where traffic was restricted to one lane. The truck carrying the chickens, heading west, was reportedly moving too fast and was unable to stop as it approached the stopped traffic. The truck hit four other vehicles before flipping over and hitting a dump truck. That dump truck was then pushed into another car.
The condition of the driver of the chicken truck was not reported. It was also not clear whether the driver would face charges as a result of the accident.
Traffic on the highway was completely shut down for about 6 hours as clean up and investigation was underway.
