Michael Lanier Threatt, 18, Killed in 18-Wheeler Wreck; Police Blame Distracted Driving

A teenage driver out of Blountsville, Alabama died Wednesday, the day after he was involved in a crash with an 18-wheeler truck.

The teen, Michael Lanier Threatt, 18, was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier on US Highway 231, north of the town of Ashville. Alabama State Troopers reported that he collided with a 2016 Freightliner truck at about 7:55 a.m.

Threatt was transported by helicopter to the University of Alabama – Birmingham, where he died the next day.

The driver of the commercial truck was not injured in the crash.

Officers stated that a preliminary investigation found that Threatt was distracted by his cell phone at the time of the wreck, though the investigation is ongoing.
