Ronald Allen Killed, 6 Injured, in 18-Wheeler Crash on I-10 in Baton Rouge

26-year-old Ronald Allen was killed Wednesday evening, and six others were injured, when a crash involving two 18-wheelers took place on Interstate 1o near Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

The crash took place when traffic on I-10 began to slow, and an 18-wheeler truck driven by Harvey Harris, 48, failed to properly slow down. The 18-wheeler crashed into the back of a 2006 GMC Sierra, pushing it off the right side of the road. Harris’s 18-wheeler then continued forward, into the back of Allen’s Chevy Impala, crushing the Impala between itself and a second 18-wheeler that was in front of Allen. The domino effect continued as the second 18-wheeler was then pushed into a Ford 250 pickup truck.

Allen was pronounced dead at the scene.

Traffic was backed up on I-10 in both directions for several hours as firefighters fought flames from the crash. The fire had started when Harris’s 18-wheeler crushed Allen’s Impala.

Charges in this incident are currently pending, according to Louisiana State Police.

Photos from the crash show catastrophic damage done to one of the 18-wheelers on the scene.
