A woman was killed earlier this morning when her Nissan Sentra sedan crashed into the back of an 18-wheeler on Interstate 71 in Boone County, Kentucky.
Reports say the 18-wheeler had begun to slow down due to an upcoming construction zone at about 11:15 a.m. when the unidentified female driver crashed into the back of the trailer and went under. According to Boone County Sheriff’s Office Spokesman Tom Sheben, it did not appear as if the driver engaged her brakes as traffic slowed down.
After the collision the woman apparently veered into the median before coming to a stop.
Bystanders called for emergency assistance, but the woman had already died upon their arrival. Authorities have not yet released her name. It was not reported whether the truck driver sustained any injuries.
I-71 was closed for about 3 hours following the crash to allow for clean-up and an investigation into the incident.
