23 students were injured Friday morning when their school bus rolled over on Interstate 65 in Chester County, Tennessee. According to reports, the driver lost control of the bus. The driver, Christina Mathis, 28, reported that she was having steering issues and could feel the wind blowing the bus around.
Metro police stated that after examining the skid marks of the bus it was clear that she lost control of the vehicle.
There were 46 people on the bus when the crash occurred. 43 were students, and there were two chaperones and the driver. 23 of the students were injured and sent to local hospitals for their injuries. The other 20 were also taken to hospitals as a precaution due to the high speed of the bus at the time of the crash.
Of the many injured, two were in critical but stable condition. The worst reported injuries were a broken collarbone and two serious arm injuries. None of the injuries were considered life-threatening.
Five of the students remained hospitalized at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and all are in stable condition.
