The driver of an 18-wheeler was killed Tuesday evening after two big rig trucks crashed in the middle of a highway.
The wreck took place near Blacksburg, South Carolina on Interstate 85 at about 8:10 p.m. According to police, an 18-wheeler left the northbound lane of the highway, drove through a median and cable barriers, and ran into another 18-wheeler in the southbound highway.
Both vehicle burst into flames. The driver of the northbound 18-wheeler was killed in the accident. He or she has not been identified at this point in time.
Witnesses said that the flames were so bad that the trucks were almost unrecognizable, and described flames extending 50 to 60 yards behind the wreckage. Thankfully, a bystander helped rescue the driver and passenger in the southbound truck. It was not reported whether they were injured in the incident.
The South Carolina Department of Transportation also reported that about 400 feet of the guardrail was damaged and would have to be replaced.
