A San Antonio driver was hospitalized early Thursday morning after his minivan crashed into the back of an 18-wheeler truck.
According to reports, the incident occurred at Rittiman Road, near Interstate 35 at about 3 a.m. Police investigators said that David Vargas, the driver of the minivan, failed to slow down after an 18-wheeler slowed down in front of him. Vargas’s vehicle plowed straight into the back of the trailer, completely destroying the front half of the van.

gas was in extremely critical condition following the wreck, and was transported to the San Antonio Military Medical Center. No update has been given about his current status.
Police stated that the 18-wheeler truck driver stayed at the scene of the crash, and that they would not face any charges in the accident. It is unclear at this time whether there were any other factors such as weather contributed to the wreck.
