Isidro Orellana Killed, 2 Injured in 9-car pileup on I-10 in Louisiana

67-year-old Isidro Orellana was killed Tuesday morning after a 9-vehicle wreck took place on westbound Interstate 10 in Metairie, Louisiana.

According to Louisiana State Police, two others were also injured, including Isidro’s son Osman Orellana, 31.

The pileup took place when a 2006 Saturn Ion nearly crashed in the left lane of the highway and came to a stop. Behind the Ion was a Chevy Suburban and  Ford Focus, which began to slow down as they approached the stopped Ion. The Ford Focus was then hit from behind by a box truck that was unable to stop. The box truck then went on to hit the stopped Saturn Ion, and was flung onto its side in three different lanes of traffic.

Once the box truck hit the other cars, it started a domino effect of crashes that caused the Chevy Suburban to be pushed into a different lane of traffic, where it was hit by an 18-wheeler truck. Isidro Orellana was seated in the back seat of the Suburban, but was not wearing his seat belt. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Osman Orellana and the driver of the Ford Focus, Pascual Guerrero, were both injured and transported to nearby University Medical Center.

Including the cars listed above, 9 total cars were involved in the chaotic wreck.

The incident remains under investigation, and criminal charges have not yet been filed.
