A series of collisions on the Massachusetts Turnpike on Monday morning resulted in the shutdown of the eastbound portion of the roadway.
According to Massachusetts State Police, the crash involved two cars, a box truck, and two 18-wheeler trucks. Details on exactly how the wreck occurred haven’t been released yet, but police said that one of the truck drivers was ejected from his cab during the collision. The cab was also torn apart due to the severity of the impact, as seen in the picture below.
The ejected driver was transported to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester for non-life-threatening injuries, and was later listed as being in stable condition. None of the parties involved has been identified at this point.
The box truck driver was also transported to UMass Memorial for non-life-threatening injuries.
Traffic was backed up for about 10 miles due to the accident.
