A 31-year-old man was killed early Thursday when his SUV crashed into the back of a tractor-trailer in Long Island, NY.
Daniel Krehl, the driver of a 2005 Saturn Vue, was pronounced dead at the scene. His SUV slammed into the back of the trailer at 2:37 a.m. on eastbound Montauk Highway, crushing the entire front portion of the car. The tractor trailer was parked on the side of the highway near Fanning Landing Road with its emergency flashers on.
The crash took place while a dense fog advisory was in effect for several counties, including Suffolk County where the incident took place. Police are investigating whether the fog factored as a cause of the crash.
It was not reported whether the driver of the large truck was injured in the wreck. Traffic was shut down for hours in each direction as cleanup efforts took place.
