Severe traffic shutdowns occurred Tuesday morning when a huge wreck occurred between three 18-wheeler trucks in near Savannah, Georgia, in Bulloch County.
The crash took place on Interstate 16 East when a big rig truck failed to properly slow down while approaching traffic that was backed up from a previous accident. This large truck ran straight into the back of another 18-wheeler, which then ran into the back of a third 18-wheeler in front of it.
One of the large trucks burst into flames. The driver of that truck was sent to the burn unit of an Augusta Hospital with serious injuries. A different truck driver was sent to a hospital in Statesboro with minor injuries. It is not yet clear which injured driver belonged to which truck.
One lane of the highway was shut down all day due to the crash. It does not appear that any other vehicles were involved in the wreck.
